The ZOO is Blowing Up!

So anyways, it has been a while... Here is a video of me playing a newer song at the Zoo, my basement venue.

In other news, I am planning my biggest tour yet, 50 shows across the country and back. It is going to be with the Bow Legged Gorilla. I will post the dates when they are all ready.

White Moth Angel

So I have been pretty busy recently. Working a burrito stand every tuesday then playing a free show after it at the Parkside Bar in Hamilton. Usually that show is me, Good Guise, and Cityslides with some guests like: Jonathonian Ehrenkranz, Baltimore String Felons, Pete Yorko, Mother Nature's Son, and American Folklore. You should come on out sometime if you're in Baltimore.

I also started working at the Golden West Cafe, booking shows and running the monthly open mic. Wanna play a show? Send me a message on myspace.

Played there with Peter And The Wolf again last night. It has been a year or so since we played at the Frisby House. I was kind of surprised I didn't notice anyone from that crew at the show. Anyways, I'm happy I bought both of his CDs. Listening to them now!

Other than that, I went up to the old family cottage in Maine for ten days this summer. I mostly hung out and played guitar and drank and smoked with my parents. I recorded 8 or so songs on an old Fisher Price tape recorder. So something will hopefully happen with those.

We also had a big family trip to scatter my Grandfather's ashes on an island in Canada. It was a nice way to honor him. I will always remember him.

A few nights ago I sliced the hell out of my foot while swimming in the Jones Falls at midnight. It was so worth it, and possibly the best night of this summer.

A white moth just flew into my eye; just lucky I guess?

Over and out...

Beneath the Bridge is Back!

The Thimble Wit procured shows, Beneath the Bridge, are back. We had the first one of the season the other day with Cityslides, Anei Birdlo, and Spoke Ensemble. This dog in the picture was a beast.

In other news, thinking about doing some sort of summer tour in July or August. Better get that ball rolling if it's going to happen. I also need to raise some money to get my roof repaired ASAP. Over and outro.

El Rancho Grande Show, May 2009

I have recently been playing a few newer songs like: leave it as it lays, as if I were its own, solid ground and I plan on playing a new song very soon...

Here are the verses of the new song:

how dare you say it if you don't mean it
it's always hard for me to turn away from such a thing
and I find that I'm always in your way
as you reach for anything
and I'm holding out
from letting my life come pouring out
in taking it as it comes to me
and getting used to anything

a few minutes would be plenty of time
for us to leave out both our lights
and sleeping with our heads in the stream
to wash away all our dreams
when I saw something I shouldn't have seen
and you said it was really nothing
it's a long way down and you best not look
but it really shook me

California notes...

The California tour was exceptionally smooth... 9 shows in 12 days... mostly house shows completely acoustic. It occasionally was a little challenging to play over a party of drinkers, but did they ever love the singalongs...

Here is a link to a radio show we played called Cool as Folk, based out of KDVS in Davis, CA: Radio Show We start our 4 songs about ten minutes into the program.

someone looks at this blog...

I was surprised to hear some peoples are actually keeping up with this blog dog. Well that is what it is here for. I am starting to plan a california tour for the end of April. It should be fun. If I can get enough money, I can bring out the VCR as well, which would make him really excited to fast forward and rewind and perform all the other normal functions.

I don't know why some of the pictures below are not really fitting into the boxes. Maybe I will tinker with it, probably not. My basketball team has a game tonight and I am hoping that Big White will be at his best. That's me. Last week's one point loss was a big let down for me. I had an awful game, even hitting the air conditioner that is 5 feet right and above the backboard.

The above pic was done in Picnik, which I have been digging, at least for doing photos and text to be posted on the web.

Thanks to Ian Sotzing for filming and putting this up onto youtube.

Humbug...

Lands & Peoples played a really nice set the other night at the Zodiac. It was first time in there since Sham Witty took over booking/running the place. Looks like they are pretty busy with shows now.

Last night at the 2640 Church was great. The Trudel/Hopkins Duo and Hullman/Alcorn/Leckie trio both had heady instrumental improvisations that melted my mind a little bit. It was nice to hear Susan say that she was going to drive home singing Laughing All The Way. I remember talking to a friend outside about the triangle conspiracy theory and how messed up I was at the Round Robin.

Fish & Chips at the Golden West Cafe was a nice finishing touch with friends after the show.

Denied!

I got this email today:

Dear MacGregor,

I want to thank you for auditioning for METAL GODS at AVAM.

We had a great experience and hope the opportunity was rewarding for you, too. Casting is a difficult process - especially when we see so much talent. We want to find a place for everyone, but often the creative team behind a film has very specific things in mind, which limit our ability to do that.

We are not considering you for a role in the film METAL GODS, but we wish you all the best in '09.

Sincerely,

Matt Porterfield

Happy New Year!

2009 is here and I am thinking about how I always have the same resolutions: exercise more, eat better, wake up earlier and get shit done more, etc... Basically, "do the dog," as they say.

I had a fun time ringing in the New Year at the Hamilton New Year's Party. Highlights of the night include me holding a broom for the hippy chicks to limbo under, Victor shredding a bow to the core, and the last cigarettes I could get my hands on. Also some questionable ingredients in the food spread made for a good time.

Last night I got to see Viking Moses play on his Fences Across America tour with Aghost and Pictish Trail. Local man, Andy Abelow, hosted the tour at his space, the Annex, and also joined in the music making with a set of his own and some backup sax and drums for the other songslingers.

Here is a picture of Viking Moses.
